What We Do . . .

  • We will first meet with you on the phone and evaluate what type of Assisted Living Facility will best meet your needs with the changes going on in your life. We can assess what you are able to do independently to determine if you are able to meet the requirements for an Assisted Living Facility. In the event that you do not meet the requirements, we will take the time to guide you to further options.
  • We will explore your finances together to help fit you with the appropriate facility that is suitable for your budget. We can also suggest financial resources that can save you money if you qualify.
  • We will then talk about the geographical area you are most interested in living. Together, we will choose three to four facilities to tour and if you choose, drive you to see the options to gain a first-hand experience of the ones you have chosen.
  • Once you have selected the best place for your future living, we will help you with the medical paperwork and provide excellent referrals to help facilitate your move. We will guide you to In-Home Care Agencies, Moving Companies, Elder Law Attorneys, Estate Planners, Veteran’s Assistance, and Skilled Nursing Homes.

Peggy Renker, CSA
Certified Senior Advisor

Peggy has been working with seniors and their families for over 15 years to ensure they enjoy the best quality of life possible, through every stage of living. She began as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care of Santa Barbara.  In 2003, she began her work with Senior Living Consultants serving seniors and their families in need of assistance for dementia, Alzheimer’s and other conditions, to find the best Assisted Living available.

Families who contact Peggy are often in crisis and don’t know where to begin. She guides them through every step. First, she obtains a detailed assessment of the individual in need of support, including medical, psychological, cultural and financial information. Then, her deep familiarity and ongoing relationships with all the Assisted Living and Dementia Care Communities in Santa Barbara and North County allow her to narrow down the best options. From there, Peggy arranges tours and communicates with treating Physicians to get necessary medical records. Once a community has met with her clients’ approval, Peggy assists with submitting admissions paperwork and the many other details inherent to the move in process.

Peggy makes this often-overwhelming process smooth and manageable, and she stays with families from the first phone call until their loved one is well settled and comfortable in their new home.

Peggy is a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA) and holds a Certificate in Residential Care for the Elderly (RCFE) and has vast knowledge of State regulations and other vital information regarding Assisted Living and Memory Care homes. Prior to joining Senior Living Consultants, Peggy worked for many years in the Hotel Resort industry, representing hotels such as La Quinta Golf and Tennis Resort and the Four Seasons Biltmore in Santa Barbara. She obtained a BA in Sociology from UCSB in 1986.

Jennie Welsh
Placement Representative

Jennie is Placement Representative for Santa Barbara Senior Living Consultants. She is devoted to helping seniors and their families as they move from living on their own to Assisted Living and Memory Care. Her dedication comes from her many years of experience supporting and caring for her own parents as they transitioned from living in their own home to Assisted Living, and ultimately, Skilled Nursing.

She knows first-hand, the difficulties seniors and their families face during these significant transitions.

She also knows the immense value of a knowledgeable and trusted resource in navigating this process. It is for that reason Jennie decided to go into this work herself.

As a Mediator for over 30 years in Santa Barbara, Jennie has helped people going through big life transitions: divorce & custody, separation from employment, and conflicts among family members regarding the care of their elderly parents. Her life and work experience have given her invaluable insight into the complexities, both practical and emotional, people face at such times. She understands the importance of really listening to people to get a complete understanding of their particular needs and concerns and honoring them as much as possible. This allows her to work in concert with families and communities to help them to make the best choices for everyone.

Jennie has been certified in Mediation since 1989. She is specially certified in Divorce & Custody Mediation, is a graduate of the State Bar of California Law Study Program and holds a bachelor’s degree in History from UCSB.
